In other countries 50% of the price of gas is taxes - which go to pay for all of the programs that their society demands. Here we get to pay $3.15 (which I paid today), with 30 cents in taxes and the rest to the oil company. My point - comparing gas prices to other countries in this manner is not an apples-to-apples comparison. To think it is means you've bought the spin and drunk the kool-aid.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9666124.post-1153947550573869432006-07-26T16:59:00.000-04:002006-07-26T16:59:00.000-04:00One interesting point would be to look at the tota...One interesting point would be to look at the total cost of motoring over the years.

Almost certainly this would have fallen drastically, because cars (especially cars from Japan etc) are much cheaper to buy, more reliable to run and last longer than a few decades ago.

I'd like to also say they are more fuel efficient. And they are for a given class of vehicle, but it seems the classes of vehicles people are buying has shifted away from efficiency (a sign that gas prices aren't biting *too* hard).

Oh, and $3 isn't expensive by world standards.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
