Godwin's Law and Georgia

This tidbit comes from the FOCUS News Agency:
Moscow. A top Russian politician on Monday compared Georgian actions in South Ossetia with Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union after Prime Minister Vladimir Putin likened them to Saddam Hussein's war crimes, AFP reports.

"I can compare this treacherous attack with the attack by Hitler on the Soviet Union in June 1941," the Speaker of the lower house of Russia's parliament, Boris Gryzlov, was quoted as saying by ITAR-TASS news agency.
Apparently Godwin's Law applies even in international diplomacy.

  1. Just because a guy used this stupid comparison a bunch of times in the old newsgroups doesn't make it a relevant observation and it surely is not a "Law" no matter how many times Godwin posts it in Wikiworld.

It does get tiresome to have lazy writers so often refer to the Nazi era instead of taking the time and effort to accurately describe what makes a particular act evil or damaging in the Twenty-first Century. However, merely making the allusion to Nazis, is not a cause to claim a point has been lost on this conveniently invented pseudo technicality.

Why, in fact, anyone who cites Godwin is just like Goebbels...

    :-)
