A Video Milestone
It's not Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," with nearly 25 million views. It's not even Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River," with just over 12 million views, or Andy Samberg's 15-million-visit video about spontaneous ejaculation, but for me it's a minor milestone.
It has taken more than two years, since October 28, 2006, yet one of the first videos I uploaded to YouTube has passed the 10,000-viewer mark. The 10,000th visit occurred within the past couple of days, but I don't know precisely when. (The same video is the third-most discussed on my YouTube channel, with 20 text comments from hither and yon.)
Even if 10,000 visits on YouTube seems paltry, consider the product: a grainy, silent, discolored, 19-second video of teen movie star William Moseley (Peter Pevensie of the Chronicles of Narnia
As it happens, Moseley is also the star of my second-most-popular video, appearing with film critic David Edelstein and producer Mark Johnson in a Virginia Film Festival panel discussion. Alas, this one (which has had only 8,289 views) is also soundless. It would be so nice to hear what the panelists are talking about.
To date, I have posted 242 videos to YouTube. Most edge near the 10-minute length limit, and most have sound. But silent, 19-second-long William Moseley continues to be the most consistent draw to my YouTube channel.
Who would suspect that youth and celebrity would be more popular than political speeches and quirky travelogues?
